Histone Deacetylase (HDAC)

Histone acetylation and deacetylation are epigenetic processes that affect gene regulation by changing the conformation of DNA in chromatin. HAT and HDAC are enzymes that regulate histone acetylation. Imbalance in histone acetylation can lead to changes in chromatin structure.13 Aberrant HDAC levels or sustained HDAC activity results in histone hypoacetylation, tightly packaged chromatin, and dysregulation of gene transcription.7,13
