Control Over Gene Expression, Impact on Cancer
The dynamic pathophysiology of cancer involves changes that arise from genetic modifications to the gene itself or heritable epigenetic modifications in gene function.1–3 Epigenetic processes modulate when genes are expressed or repressed, and at what level they are expressed or repressed, without changes in the DNA sequence.4,5 This site provides an introduction to epigenetics and cancer and the role of the enzyme histone deacetylase (HDAC) in aberrant gene expression. Links to other educational oncology resources are also available.
